BIG 5 PERSONALITY TRAITS -

Introduction

Many personality psychologists believed that there are five basic dimensions of personality simply referred to as big five personality traits that consist of Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Openness, Agreeableness and Neuroticism.


Extraversion is sociability, agreeableness is kindness, openness is creativity and intrigue, conscientiousness is thoughtfulness, and neuroticism often involves sadness or emotional instability.

The Big Five Traits

Each of the five basic personality traits refers to a range between two extremes. For example, Extraversion represents extreme extraversion and also extra introversion. Here some people come under both like sometimes extraversion and sometimes introversion.

OPENNESS

Openness refers to openness to experience, people who are high in openness tend to have a wide range of interests. They are always eager to learn new things and they are adventurous and enjoy new experiences and they are more creative.

HIGH

        Very Creative

        Open to trying new things

        New challenges

LOW

        Dislikes changes

        Does not enjoy new things

        Avoids challenges

CONSCIENTIOUSNESS

Conscientiousness is defined by a high level of thoughtfulness and goal directed behavior. Highly conscientious people tend to be more organized and mindful of behavior and they are very responsible towards their work.

        Finishs important tasks

LOW

        Doesn't take care of things

        Dislikes structure and schedule

        Makes everything messy

EXTRAVERSION

Extraversion people are easily socialize and are talkative and they are highly expressive of their own feelings and they like to spend their times by meeting new peoples.

        Enjoys being center of attention

        Likes to start conversation

        Wide social circle of friends

LOW

        Dislikes being center of attention

        Finds difficult to start a conversation

        Difficult to make new friends

AGREEABLENESS

This personality traits includes attributes such as trust, altruism, kindness, affection and other prosocial behaviors

HIGH

        Cares about others

        Feels empathy

        Enjoy helping those who are in need

LOW

        Takes little interest in others

        They don't help others

        They don't feel empathy

NEUROTICISM

Neuroticism is characterized by sadness, moodiness, grief and emotional instability. People who are high in neuroticism tend to face mood swings, anxiety, irritability.

HIGH

        Experiences lot of stress

        Worries about many different things

        Gets upset easily

LOW

        Emotionally stable

        Doesn't worry much

        Relaxed

By understanding the characteristics of this big 5 personality traits we can get to know about our own insight on our personality without taking a personality tests and atlast there is a easy way remember the big 5 using a acronym OCEAN ( openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism).
